Less than two weeks from Wimbledon, Stefanos Tsitsipas was beaten Wednesday Nicolas Jarry 7-6 (9/7), 7-5. Germany’s Alexander Zverev defeated Denis Shapovalov in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, 5th in the world, was beaten on Wednesday in the second round of the Halle gr tournament by the Chilean Nicolas Jarry (28th) 7-6 (9/7), 7-5, less than two weeks from Wimbledon. The Greek had already lost as soon as he entered the running in the second round the previous week in Stuttgart, beaten by the Frenchman Richard Gasquet, on a surface that he is definitely struggling to tame. In his two previous appearances in the German tournament, he had also lost in the second round and did not progress beyond the third round at Queen’s.

A double Grand Slam finalist on clay at Roland-Garros (2021) and on hard at the Australian Open (2023), Tsitsipas only reached the second week at Wimbledon once, in 2018, when he had yielded in the round of 16 against John Isner. Last year, he was eliminated in the third round by eventual finalist Nick Kyrgios. For his part, Jarry will face in the quarterfinals the German Alexander Zverev (22nd), who defeated the Canadian Denis Shapovalov (27th) in two sets 6-2, 6-4.
