The Spanish basketball players, deprived of the World Cup last year and the last four of Euro-2021 at home, qualified for the final of the 2023 European Championship, dominating surprising Hungary 69 to 60, Saturday at the start of evening in Ljubljana.
For a fifth continental title after 1993, 2013, 2017 and 2019, Laura Gil’s teammates will face France or Belgium, who are competing on Saturday evening (8:45 p.m.) for the second ticket for Sunday’s final (8:00 p.m.) in the Stozice Arena in Ljubljana.
Absent from Valencia two years ago due to a positive Covid-19 test just before the start of Euro-2021, Alba Torrens carried her team at arm’s length, for their fifth continental semi-final, with 27 points, including a fifth successful three-point shot in the middle of the last quarter to give themselves some air.
After counting up to 16 points in advance in the third quarter, the Spaniards saw the Magyars come back to four points at the start of the last ten minutes, then to three points three minutes from the end (58- 55).
The experience of the Iberians at this level of competition that Hungary has not known since 1997, made the difference in the last minutes, in favor of La Roja.
