THE cannabis users and other will soon be able, when they are caught, to immediately pay the fixed fine, announces Emmanuel Macron in an interview with Provenceat the dawn ofa three-day visit to Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), particularly affected by this problem.

“I asked the Minister of the Interior to prepare a decree for the end of the summer, so that the payment of the fines can be immediate, by bank card or in cash”, explains Emmanuel Macron to the newspaper, deploring “ a recovery rate of 35%” of the fixed fine for this type of offence, “as payment is made by telepayment between 45 and 60 days”.

“We must find ways to be even more effective, also justifies the President of the Republic in this interview. In the past, small offenses were not followed by consequences and closed without further action. » Since September 2020, the authorities have introduced a fixed fine for drug users – decided outside of any trial – the amount of which varies from 150 to 450 euros depending on the time taken to pay it. Failure to pay this fine leads to a subsequent summons to the correctional court. “350,000 have been trained in France, including 29,000 in Marseille,” reveals Emmanuel Macron.

Payment terminals for law enforcement

In order to allow the “instantaneous” payment of this fine, the police and gendarmerie crews will be required to be equipped with bank terminals. “We have started to equip agents with 5,000 payment terminals”, announces Emmanuel Macron.

It is already possible, in the case of a traffic offense for example (poor parking, speeding, refusal of priority, driving in the wrong direction, etc.), to pay your fine immediately at the place of the offense . This implies “that you acknowledge the infringement”, indicates Service-public.fr website. It is therefore not possible subsequently to contest this contravention.
