Sylvain Waserman, Emmanuel Macron’s new choice to lead Ademe
After the failure of his previous candidate, Boris Ravignon, challenged in an unprecedented way by the Parliament , the choice of Emmanuel Macron to lead Ademe, the ecological transition agency, is the former Modem deputy of Bas-Rhin Sylvain Waserman. “The President of the Republic plans, on the proposal of the Prime Minister (Elisabeth Borne), to appoint Sylvain Waserman as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Agency for the Environment and Energy Management (Ademe )”, said the Elysée in a press release on Monday.
Parliament must now give the green light to the appointment of this 56-year-old former Alsatian deputy, beaten in the legislative elections last year by Nupes candidate Emmanuel Fernandes, after a first term at the Palais-Bourbon.
A first
At the beginning of April, the Parliament had created the surprise by rejecting the appointment of the mayor LR of Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes), Boris Ravignon, at the head of Ademe, because of his desire to combine several functions. It was the first time that a candidate proposed by the Elysée, at Ademe or elsewhere, was challenged since this appointment procedure was introduced in 2008 in article 13 of the Constitution.
More than three-fifths of those elected had voted against, the quota required by the Constitution to oppose an appointment proposed by the President of the Republic.
