Steven Kruijswijk (Jumbo-Visma) injured his collarbone and pelvis and is probably forfeited for the Tour
All the Dauphiné teams have the Tour in mind, aware that a fall during the race of one of their riders could deprive him of the French roads in July. This Monday, it was the case of Jumbo-Visma and Steven Kruijswijk. The Dutch climber (35 years old) fell from the 8th kilometer of the 2nd stage, accompanied by Romain Combaud (DSM) and Steff Cras (TotalEnergies). The three men abandoned the race without getting back on their bikes.
The medical statement mentions a fracture of the right collarbone for Kruijswijk, as well as a fracture of the pelvis (small pelvis), which announce a long period without competition. However, the Dutchman was scheduled among the eight selected from Jumbo-Visma on the tour. He should therefore be replaced by Wilco Kelderman, another equally experienced climber (32 years old), in the service of Jonas Vingegaard.
“It’s a big loss for us, because he’s a great teammate, regretted Christophe Laporte, Yellow Jersey of the Dauphiné. I think of him, he spent three weeks training in Sierra Nevada with us, and a week later, his chances of participating in the Tour are gone. It’s really a pity. »
