Ongoing fire in the 5th arrondist of Paris, several people in absolute emergency
A gas explosion took place in the 5th arrondist of the capital this Wednesday at the end of the afternoon, setting fire to several surrounding buildings. The Prefecture of Police asked to avoid the area, explaining that an intervention was underway in rue Saint-Jacques, in the heart of Paris.
There are many rescue teams on the scene according to the journalists present on the spot: at least 200 firefighters, 70 emergency vehicles as well as the police and the gendarmerie who have established a security perimeter.
At least four people are in absolute emergency according to information collected by AFP from the town hall. “Residents of the 5th, a gas explosion has just occurred at Place Alphonse Laveran in the Val de Grâce district, buildings are on fire, stay away to allow the firefighters to intervene”, asked the first deputy mayor of district, Edouard Civel, on Twitter.
According to AFP journalists, a building collapsed and several are on fire. According to various witnesses and media, the facade of the American Paris Academy, a fashion school, would have collapsed. “The Paris firefighters intervene. Please do not interfere with their intervention and avoid the sector, ”tweeted Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
