Health Insurance will cut up to 1,700 jobs by 2027
Plane blow for health insurance. Its board of directors gave the green light on Monday to a new agreement with the State: this provides for up to 1,700 job cuts by 2027, subject to “productivity gains” and with a “clause review” in two years.
With 82,000 agents on permanent contracts throughout the country, these job cuts will reach around 2% of the total health insurance workforce. This objective was confirmed by three members of the Board of Directors but it does not appear in the new objective and management agreement.
These job cuts will concern various services by the end of 2027 thanks to “productivity gains” in particular on the automation of care sheets and invoices, we learn in this new agreement. The branches affected by departures are that of “payment of benefits” and that of “management of rights”.
At the same time, the Health Insurance plans to strengthen other areas of its activities, including “access to rights and care”, the “fight against fraud”, as well as “prevention programs”.
Very gradual departures
The objective and management agreement was approved with the voices of employers and health insurance users (sick or disabled). Opposite, the mutuals and the CFDT abstained. The other unions voted against the text, according to the statements of the chairman of the board of directors of Health Insurance in a press release.
The signing of this agreement had been blocked for several weeks, precisely because of the question of job cuts. The situation has been resolved because a “review clause” has been added to the text, scheduled for the first half of 2025. The job cuts will also be very gradual since 5% then 10% of the 1,700 departures will take place over the next two years. . This equates to 250 positions by the end of 2024.
If the “productivity” objectives are not achieved by this date, Health Insurance and its administrators will be able to “revise the trajectory of the workforce” and even spread it “if necessary beyond 2027”.
