Film restoration, a key step in the exploitation of the Studiocanal catalog
After acquiring the world rights to Claude Lelouch’s films in May, Studiocanal welcomes a new giant to its catalog, Werner Herzog. By a license agreement concluded for ten years, the German filmmaker entrusts the exploitation of 40 of his films to the subsidiary of Canal+, according to our information.
A nice move that further expands the Studiocanal catalog. With more than 8,000 films, it is the biggest in Europe. “It’s the bedrock of our business and the core of our strategy today,” says Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh. Put back at the center of the game since 2016 by the chairman of the management board of the Canal+ group, Maxime Saada, the exploitation of the catalog provides between 30 and 40% of the turnover of the French studio, depending on the year. A very profitable activity, the films having already been amortized.
