The Italian Federation has formalized the departure of the New Zealand coach, despite the latter’s desire to continue his mission for four more years. The name of the former manager of the Stade Français returns with insistence to succeed him.
The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) announced on Thursday June 15, 2023 that Kieran Crowley would leave his post as coach after the World Cup. A snub for the New Zealander, in office since 2021 and who hoped to extend his contract. His record is honorable so far with six victories – including one in Wales at the 2022 Tournament and another against Australia, there are one, two historic firsts for Italy.
“Kieran’s time with Italian rugby is very positive. He grew a group of boys, turning them into men and players of the highest international level. For that we will be eternally grateful.said FIR President Marzio Innocenti.
“I regret the FIR’s decision not to extend my contract.»Kieran Crowley
A tribute that did not console Crowley. “I regret the FIR’s decision not to extend my contract. We have a young team that has gained good experience over the past year, with improved performance in many areas. With a World Cup and another four years of international matches, we will have a group with an average of 50-60 caps, an exciting prospect. Unfortunately, I will not be part of this trip.»
The New Zealander, however, ured that he would carry out his duties seriously until the end of his contract. “I will be 100% committed with our staff to prepare this group of players (for the World Cup) in the best possible way.»
To succeed him, a name comes back with insistence. That of Gonzalo Quesada who saw his contract with the Stade Français Paris come to an end this month a year in advance.
