Axel Springer undertakes a major restructuring of his tabloid “BILD”

German media giant Axel Springer is stepping up a gear in its paperweight abandonment strategy . Among the less digital of its titles, BILD will thus undergo a profound restructuring, as first revealed by the “Handelsblatt”. The management of the tabloid announced Monday in an email addressed to the 600 employees of the first European tabloid the elimination of a third of its 18 local offices. Functions that can be replaced by artificial intelligence will also be removed.

The BILD works council has yet to decide, but a departure desk will thus be opened as part of the elimination of several hundred positions related to production, layout or administrative functions. Manufacturing processes will be adapted from next month so that a new digital-centric organization will be in place by early next year.
