Andrea Mayr and Patrick Kipngeno win the vertical race at the Trail Worlds
She has been one of the great figures of mountain running for fifteen years. Thirteen years after her first world title in vertical running (2010 in Slovenia), Andrea Mayr won, at the age of 44, her 5th title of world champion in the discipline (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2023). By winning a very rolling Austrian event for a vertical race (1,000 m of elevation gain diluted over nearly 7 kilometers), she took her revenge for the 2022 Worlds in Thailand where she had to settle for the silver medal. On the finish line, Mayr is ahead of the Kenyan Philaries Jeruto Kisang and the American Grayson Murphy.
Patrick Kipngeno does it again after 2022
The Kenyan Patrick Kipngeno landed with a bang in the world of trail running in 2022. Second in Sierre-Zinal in 2022 and vertical running world champion in Thailand that same year, he established himself in a few months as one of the best in the world when it’s about running fast on vertical courses. In Austria, this Wednesday, he confirmed that he was the strongest in the climb: he dominates Levi Kiprotich (Uganda) and Josphat Kiprotich (Kenya).
The first Frenchmen, Emmanuel Meyssat and Christel Dewalle, finished 16th and 6th respectively.
