In Canada, Max Verstappen achieved a sixth success this season and increased his lead at the top of the general clification.
The four in a row for Max Verstappen. Insatiable, the reigning double world champion won the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, thus signing his fourth success in a row, the 41st in his career (equal to Senna), the 6th of the season (already!) and above all the 100th victory for Red Bull in F1. Numbers that give a headache, like the domination of the Batavian inflicted on its opponents this year. Behind, and for once at a pace similar to Verstappen, Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) complete the podium.
Russell tastes the wall, paying off strategy for Ferrari
The start was announced hot with a first line Verstappen-Alonso but the Spaniard missed his start in Montreal. Verstappen then quickly took off and Hamilton also took the opportunity to overtake the Iberian. Behind the double world champion, a trio quickly broke away with Hamilton-Alonso-Russell until lap 11 when the latter went down the wall, damaging his Mercedes and triggering the intervention of the safety car. This allowed the leaders to stop to put the tough guys on. Except the Ferraris who tried the one-stop strategy.
And it was a successful strategy because at the end of a smooth race, Charles Leclerc took fourth place just ahead of Carlos Sainz. Positive for the Scuderia which finally takes its head above water. In front on a two-stop strategy, Alonso regained the upper hand over Hamilton on lap 22 and held his second place until the finish without forcing.
Ocon stumbles on Albon
Meanwhile, in the peloton, the battle raged with Alex Albon author of an incredible performance (7th). At the wheel of his modest Williams, and on a one-stop strategy, the Thai held in respect of the faster cars and in particular the Alpine of Esteban Ocon (8th), unable to find the fault. Lance Stroll (9th) and Valtteri Bottas (10th) complete the top 10. Pierre Gasly finishes 12th. All this little world now has an appointment in 15 days in Austria on the lands of Red Bull.
