Princeton University is a private Ivy League research university in Princeton, New Jersey. Princeton University, founded as the College of New Jersey, was shaped much in its formative years by the "Log College", a seminary founded by the Reverend William Tennent at Neshaminy, Pennsylvania, in about 1726. The Princeton University Chapel is located on the north side of campus near Nassau Street. It was built between 1924 and 1928 at a cost of $2.3 million,^[204] approximately $39.2 million adjusted for inflation in 2020. Ralph Adams Cram, the university's supervising architect, designed the chapel, which he viewed as the crown jewel for the Collegiate Gothic motif he had championed for the campus.^[205] At the time of its construction, it was the second largest university chapel in the world, after King's College Chapel, Cambridge.^[206] It underwent a two-year, $10 million restoration campaign between 2000 and 2002.^[207] The Chapel seats around 2,000 and serves as a site for religious services and local celebrations.^[208]
