Long before the era of online shopping and next-day delivery, Americans experienced a different kind of retail wonder.

It was a time when massive catalogs were the mainstay of every household, offering everything from tools to home goods.

But the most remarkable item one could order? A house.

In the early 1900s, Sears Roebuck revolutionized home buying.
Families would send thousands of dollars to Sears and eagerly await the delivery of their new home.

Imagine the excitement as 12,000 pieces of a house arrived by train, ready to be pieced together by the new homeowners.

Nestled in Carlinville, Illinois, lies a unique testament to this era- an entire neighborhood comprising over 150 houses ordered from Sears catalogs.

This place is a collection of homes and a living museum of American history and ingenuity.

Harvard University is a private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Founded in 1636 as Harvard College and named for its first benefactor, the Puritan clergyman John Harvard, it is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. Harvard's founding was authorized by the Massachusetts colonial legislature, "dreading to leave an illiterate ministry to the churches". Though never formally affiliated with any denomination, in its early years Harvard College primarily trained Congregational clergy. Its curriculum and student body were gradually secularized during the 18th century. By the 19th century, Harvard emerged as the most prominent academic and cultural institution among the Boston elite.^[10]^[11] Following the American Civil War, under President Charles William Eliot's long tenure (1869–1909), the college developed multiple affiliated professional schools that transformed the college into a modern research university. In 1900, Harvard co-founded the Association of American Universities.^[12] James B. Conant led the university through the Great Depression and World War II, and liberalized admissions after the war.

The university is composed of ten academic faculties plus the Harvard Radcliffe Institute. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences offers study in a wide range of undergraduate and graduate academic disciplines, and other faculties offer only graduate degrees, including professional degrees. Harvard has three main campuses:^[13] the 209-acre (85 ha) Cambridge campus centered on Harvard Yard; an adjoining campus immediately across Charles River in the Allston neighborhood of Boston; and the medical campus in Boston's Longwood Medical Area.^[14] Harvard's endowment is valued at $50.7 billion, making it the wealthiest academic institution in the world.^[3]^[4] Endowment income enables the undergraduate college to admit students regardless of financial need and provide financial aid with no loans. According to the American Library Association, Harvard University has the fourth largest library by volumes held in the United States.

Harvard alumni, faculty, and researchers have included 188 living billionaires, 8 U.S. presidents, numerous heads of state, founders of notable companies, Nobel laureates, Fields Medalists, members of Congress, MacArthur Fellows, Rhodes Scholars, Marshall Scholars, Turing Award Recipients, Pulitzer Prize winners, and Fulbright Scholars; by most metrics, Harvard ranks among the top globally in each of these categories.^{[Notes 1]} Additionally, students and alumni have won 10 Academy Awards and 110 Olympic medals (46 gold).

Princeton University is a private Ivy League research university in Princeton, New Jersey. Founded in 1746 in Elizabeth as the College of New Jersey, Princeton is the fourth-oldest institution of higher education in the United States and one of the nine colonial colleges chartered before the American Revolution.^[8]^[9]^[a] The institution moved to Newark in 1747, and then to its current campus, nine years later. It officially became a university in 1896 and was subsequently renamed Princeton University.

Princeton University, founded as the College of New Jersey, was shaped much in its formative years by the "Log College", a seminary founded by the Reverend William Tennent at Neshaminy, Pennsylvania, in about 1726. While no legal connection ever existed, many of the pupils and adherents from the Log College would go on to financially support and become substantially involved in the early years of the university.^[12] While early writers considered it as the predecessor of the university,^[15] the idea has been rebuked by Princeton historians

The Princeton University Chapel is located on the north side of campus near Nassau Street. It was built between 1924 and 1928 at a cost of $2.3 million,^[204] approximately $39.2 million adjusted for inflation in 2020. Ralph Adams Cram, the university's supervising architect, designed the chapel, which he viewed as the crown jewel for the Collegiate Gothic motif he had championed for the campus.^[205] At the time of its construction, it was the second largest university chapel in the world, after King's College Chapel, Cambridge.^[206] It underwent a two-year, $10 million restoration campaign between 2000 and 2002.^[207] The Chapel seats around 2,000 and serves as a site for religious services and local celebrations.^[208]
