Fiona Ferro, qualified for the final draw of Roland-Garros: “It’s a bit of a rebirth”
The match: “A big fight”
“It’s great fun, I’ve been through a lot of emotions in recent months, not necessarily hyperpositive, if I had been told that I was going to qualify for the final draw at Roland, I would have signed right away. Today was a big fight against a player who was very sticky, who didn’t give me much. I started quite well, I was not too tense, I managed to build my points well. On her line she was quite solid, quite strong so I was trying to bring her into a fight with more trajectories. Then in the second set, I lost the thread of the match a little, I started to force a lot, trying to get the points in two shots. And then in the third, I really managed to get back into it, to propose a fight on all points and I’m super happy to have managed to do it from the start of the third set until the end. »
The qualification: “A lot of positive emotions”
“It’s a lot of happiness, especially to be able to share it with my family, my friends, who know what I’ve been through in recent months because they were also part of the thing. I’m at home, I live next door, it’s a lot of positive emotions. It’s a bit of a rebirth. »
The wild card for the final draw: “I was missing reference matches”
“I feel supported and helped by the Fed. I didn’t really know what to expect from the wildcards when it wasn’t out yet, I think I was missing a few reference matches against Top 100 players to be able to claim this invitation for the table final. But when I didn’t get it, I wasn’t disappointed, I didn’t tell myself that it was unfair and that I should have had it. Because we were a lot of girls to deserve it. I thought it was a good opportunity to be able to play these qualifications. »
The level of play: “On certain pages, the same as when I was Top 50”
“I think I have very good pages. In terms of ranking, I couldn’t necessarily tell you, but on certain pages I have the same level as when I was in the Top 50. Afterwards I think that when I was in the Top 50, it was more stable and there was less of a gap in level of play between what I could do in a game. »
Lucas Pouille: “I was very moved when he won”
“We already knew each other pretty well. I watched the game at home with a friend, I didn’t want to waste too much energy staying at the stadium. It’s too good, we have the same coach, so it’s great to see that he too is leaving on a very positive dynamic. It’s super inspiring, it made me want to do like him. »
