COUNTERPOINT – Obtain from the Republicans a withdrawal of the constitutional aspect of his project in exchange for a renunciation of a law on the residence permit. Darmanin believes in this tactic.
You renounce your constitutional revision, we renounce our residence permit. This “deal” is not yet on the table and the new exchanges between Gerald Darmanin And The Republicans are barely beginning, but the most optimistic want to believe in a possible convergence between the government and the right.
This perspective may seem illusory given the hardening of the debate on the issue. After much back and forth on the method and the timetable, the executive confirmed its desire for a “balanced” text including the creation of an additional residence permit for so-called “in tension” professions; a diriment disposition for the right. And with its proposal to modify the constitution in order to restore the primacy of national law over European law, LR is attacking one of the fundamentals of Macronism. Veto on one side, non possumus on the other: never has the incompatibility seemed so total.
