The program for the regular season of the Champions League (CHL) has been known since Wednesday, after the draw made in Tampere (Finland), a city which currently co-organizes the World Championship. 24 teams are in the running. But there will be no groups this season, nor home and away matches. Each team will face six opponents, each time in a single match. And the top 16 teams will qualify for the round of 16.
For the draw, the participants were divided into four groups of six teams. The distribution in these groups depended on the results obtained in the championship and the position of the said championship in the CHL standings. (see below). Placed in the last group, the Dragons of Rouen expected a strong program. They were not disappointed.
Rouen will find Ilves Tampere
Recent champions of France will receive the Finns from Ilves Tampere and the Lahti Pelicans as well as the Germans from Ingolstadt, where the French international Charles Bertrand plays. They will travel to Geneva-Servette, Swiss champion, to the Swedes of Skelleftea and finally to Mannheim, Germany.
The first day of the Champions League will take place on August 31/September 1 and the sixth and final on September 17 and 18. During this last edition, Rouen had worried Ilves Tampere, going to draw (3-3) over there, before losing (0-4) home.
