Emmanuel Lebesson and Jianan Yuan released in mixed doubles at the Durban Worlds
The Franco-French duel of the second round in mixed doubles of the World Championships turned to the advantage of Simon Gauzy and Prithika Pavade this Monday in Durban (South Africa). They eliminated the pair made up of Emmanuel Lebesson and Jianan Yuan, reigning European champion and world No. 4 (3-2), and will meet the Germans Nina Mittelham and Dang Qiu in the round of 16 on Tuesday (6:30 p.m. on L’Equipe live).
Alexis Lebrun in the third round
The eldest of the Lebrun brothers, 19th in the world, qualified for the third round on Monday by defeating the Senegalese Ibrahima Diaw (4-2). He will be opposed, in the round of 16 on Wednesday, to the Slovenian Darko Jorgic, 13th in the world and vice-champion of Europe, who defeated the Portuguese Tiago Apolonia (4-1).
Félix Lebrun and Simon Gauzy will play their second round meeting on Tuesday. The first, 35th in the world and qualified on abandonment for injury of his opponent, the Iranian Nima Alamian, will face the Taiwanese Kao Cheng-Jui (73rd). The three other tricolor representatives involved play on Tuesday. The French champion Audrey Zarif will face the Korean Shin Yubin (n°26) at 11:40 a.m., Camille Lutz against the formidable Japanese Mima Ito (n°7) at 1:40 p.m., and Jianan Yuan against the Slovak from Saint-Denis Barbora Balazova at 1 p.m. In the event of victory, Zarif and Yuan would meet in the round of 16.
The Lebrun brothers face a double mountain
In doubles, only the Lebrun brothers remain in the race. European bronze medalists will face, in the round of 16 this Tuesday (7:10 p.m.) the Chinese duo Fan Zhendong-Wang Chuqin, the world number one pair, composed of the leader of the world ranking and his runner-up in singles. Alexis and Félix Lebrun had so far eliminated the Taiwanese Kao-Chuang in the first round (3-1) then the Luxembourgers Glod-Mladenovic in the second (3-0).
Emmanuel Lebesson and Can Akkuzu were knocked out in the second round on Monday by Koreans Jang Woojin and Lim Jonghoon (3-2), silver medalists at the Worlds in Houston in 2021.
The two women’s doubles were eliminated: Camille Lutz and Prithika Pavade gave in to the Germans Sabine Winter and Annett Kaufmann on Monday (3-2), after eliminating the Slovaks Labosova-Kukulkova. Charlotte Lutz and Audrey Zarif had not made the weight as soon as they entered the running against Adina Diaconu (ROU) and Maria Xiao (ESP), bronze medalists at the Euro (3-0).
