INTERVIEW – The deputy (Renaissance) of Morbihan and former soldier is the rapporteur of the military programming law. For him, the LPM 2024-2030 ensures the “coherence” of the armies.

LE FIGARO. – Thanks to the 2024-2030 military programming law, the army budget should amount to 413 billion euros. Is it sufficient?

Jean-Michel Jacques. – In 2030, the armed forces budget will reach 69 billion euros. In ten years, it will therefore have more than doubled. It was a necessity. There is nothing too much. Our collective duty is to make our fellow citizens understand the consequences of the war in Ukrainethe issues in the Indo-Pacific, in exo-atmospheric space, the impact of information attacks or in cyberspace… If our democracies do not rearm, by investing in equipment or in research, we simply risk losing to be downgraded.

In absolute terms, it would obviously be necessary to be able to do more. But we must take into account the realities of France in 2023.
