It took just eight minutes for PSG to secure a valuable victory in the race for the French title. Carried by Kylian Mbappé, author of a double express (6th, 8th), the Parisians won, all the same in difficulty, in Auxerre (2-1) Sunday at the end of the 36th day of Ligue 1.
With six lengths ahead of Lens (2nd), two days from the end, PSG are only one point away from lifting their 11th French championship title. Brave but punished by the talent of Mbappé, Auxerre did not take advantage of the heavy defeat of Nantes (17th) against Montpellier on Saturday (0-3). The Icaunais keep a point ahead of the Canaries, the first relegation.
Christophe Pelissier’s players got into their encounter very badly: not aggressive enough in the duel, they left both the depth and the latitude to turn around to Mbappé, who did not ask for so much. Free, the French striker scored the earliest double in Ligue 1 (6th, 8th) since that of Bordeaux Yoann Gouffran (1st, 5th) in May 2012 in Auxerre. The first came after a series of hooks in the icaunaise area. The second after an excellent feint from Hugo Ekitike.
But, after an interesting first quarter of an hour, the Parisians lost the thread of the meeting and suffered the offensive transitions from Auxerre. Stirring, Gauthier Hein energized the Parisian rearguard, without managing to beat Gianluigi Donnarumma, in a great evening (17th, 27th). Rayan Raveloson tried his luck (38th), but his sublime volley hit the bar of the Italian goalkeeper, impeccable in front of Nuno Da Costa (43rd) and Line Sinayoko (45th + 2).
Solid until then, Gianluigi Donnarumma finally gave in, on returning from the locker room, in front of this same Sinayoko (51st), taking advantage of Sergio Ramos’ apathy in the duel. Driven by a dreamy public, Auxerre intensified their offensives, but as since the start of the match, the Icaunian attackers found Donnarumma (75th) on their way. At the end of the match, Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick, canceled due to an offside position by the French striker.
The player: Hugo Ekitike, the end of the Parisian adventure?
The trip to Auxerre could be Hugo Ekitike’s last match in a PSG jersey. Aligned at the forefront of the attack, the French striker held his thigh and asked Christophe Galtier (54th) to change. A bad omen two days from the end. Before that, the former Rémois had spent a mixed evening: non-existent for most of the match, he managed a fake body, giving Kylian Mbappé time to adjust his support to score his second goal.
Author of a decisive p for Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi delivered the 300th of his club career. Thus, the Argentinian has scored 20 goals and provided 20 ists this season in all competitions.
