Challenger Series: Frenchman Marco Mignot 3rd in the Sydney Pro

The 2nd round (out of six) of the Challenger Series, the GWSM Sydney Surf Pro, ended this Sunday in North Narrabeen in the northern suburbs of Sydney and the tricolor clan struggled to shine with the exception of Marco Mignot, formidable semi-finalist, and to a lesser extent of “former” Marc Lacomare, who reached the quarters before being narrowly dominated by the amazing future winner Cole Houshmand (11.20 – 12.77) .

In 8th, Mignot dismissed another Frenchie, Justin Becret (14 – 9.27). But in the semis, and while he was one step away from the final, the 2023 European champion fell to the Australian Jacob Willcox (7.87 – 13.13). The Franco-Mexican, who caused a sensation during the Pro France 2019 (17th place), signed there the best result of his career.

Mignot, who jumped 25 places, is now 8th overall – the top 10 will advance to CT 2024 – while Marc Lacomare is 14th and Jorgann Couzinet, opening quarter-finalist at Snapper Rocks is 15th.

The French do not shine

In the women’s table, the French did not shine. Vahine Fierro, Thessa Thyssen and Pauline Ado were all eliminated in the Round of 16. The competition was won by Isabella Nichols against her compatriot Sally Fitzgibbons (13.84 – 10.14). In the general clification, Vahine Fierro is tied for 5th place while the first eight will qualify for the pro circuit after the six rounds of these Challenger Series.

The next stage will be held in early July (2-9) in South Africa, in Ballito.
