The return of Adrien Quatennens within the “rebellious” group divides the Nupes

For a few weeks, the mechanics of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) has been jammed according to the divisions which reappear to the rhythm of a metronome. After the partial legislative in Ariège, where the socialist dissident Martine Froger dislodged the “rebellious” labeled Nupes Bénédicte Taurine, the reinstatement of Adrien Quatennens in the group La France insoumise (LFI) in the National Assembly creates a new earthquake.
Tuesday, April 11, the LFI deputies voted in favor of the return of the deputy from the North, excluded from their benches since his conviction, on December 13, 2022, for domestic violence. Officially, the former natural heir of Jean-Luc Mélenchon would have made amends and would have submitted to an internship on sexist and sexual violence. Particularly vehement, the Socialists described this decision as “political misconduct” there judging “unacceptable”. “This undermines the credibility of all left-wing formations to speak clearly on this major subject of gender-based and sexual violence”, got carried away Pierre Jouvet, right arm of the socialist leader, Olivier Faure. He even sees a “bad signal sent to all women” who believe in the left “to break the patriarchy and its mechanisms”.

The ardor of the reaction of the socialists, contrasting with the agreement which they usually show with regard to the “rebellious”, can also be seen as a desire by Olivier Faure to stand out more strongly from his cumbersome allies. For months, the first secretary of the PS has been abused by half of his party, accused of being subservient to Jean-Luc Mélenchon. His main opponent, the first deputy secretary Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, had for example warned that he would not understand that Mr. Faure could accept the return of Adrien Quatennens to the Nupes intergroup, the coordination body of the left-wing coalition, and to oppose the arrival of Martine Froger in the PS group. For once, the mayor of Rouen found nothing wrong with the management’s reaction. “We say pretty much the same thing. It discredits the left.he concedes.
