COUNTERPOINT – The differences between the tactical divide and the ideological divide contribute to putting Les Républicains before a necessity: to work on ideas.
To come out at the top, that is to say through the ideas. This is the ambition of Éric Ciotti who, with the pension reform, lived the most grueling hazing ever for a president of the Republicans. Working on the substance is what works best on the right. Stunned in 1988 by the hands-down re-election of François Mitterrand, she had immersed herself in the “states general of the opposition” which had provided the ideological basis for her triumphant victory in 1993. After the fiasco of the dissolution of 1997, Nicolas Sarkozy had renewed the programmatic software of the right, first in his book Freethen at the head of the UMP.
Getting down to ideas and the project is thankless because it requires real work, without sticking to a few mechanically repeated slogans; because this is done in a frustrating media indifference for those who are eager to exist; and because the translation of these reflections is not visible on the electoral level for several years.
